“My Internship at 10to8 Appointment Scheduling Software” – Thoughts from a Computer Science undergraduate
Over the last 3 months, I’ve had the wonderful opportunity to work as a software development intern in the Product Team at 10to8 Appointment Scheduling Software. Joining 10to8 has allowed me to explore and understand the ins and outs of a technology company as I’ve been able to truly get involved with a wide variety of work.
10to8 aims to reduce the time wasted on scheduling appointments, and it has been amazing to be able to contribute to this mission. At my time in the company, I worked on a new web application as part of the product, a dashboard for customers of our customers! While 10to8 has primarily focused on software aimed towards businesses and organisations in the past, I’ve had the opportunity to lead a new customer-facing side of the product.
This new customer dashboard will allow customers of organisations who use 10to8 to see all of their bookings at once from every organisation that they’re a customer of. On top of this, customers will be able to make bookings in the app with any of these organisations and there are plans to scale this project in the future, help businesses and their clients stay on the same page, and ultimately, further reduce confusion around schedules and costly appointment no-shows.

From editing database models, automatically updating components on booking changes, or simply making sure everything looks nice and clean, I’ve been able to learn a wide range of skills during my internship at 10to8. This was only made possible because of the supportive work environment; the team was not only willing but keen to place responsibility in an undergraduate intern. Challenging as it was, it enabled me to learn at a fast pace.
Along with technical skills, I also learnt how to complete an application from the start of the development phase to release. The opportunity to work with the support,marketing, and sales teams to deliver the application as a company was a great learning experience. Furthermore, I gained first-hand experience in how a tech company can get stuff done efficiently and with agile project management. All of this while working fully remotely which is a skill that is increasingly important with everything going on.
The people definitely make the workplace and it’s been a pleasure to work in this company. From the get-go, I really appreciated how they approached company interaction with end of week demos and retrospections, regular virtual coffee chats to catch up with people in the wake of COVID-19, and the end of month meetings where everyone could ask questions to the CEO. Even with all the work being done remotely, it all culminated in feeling very comfortable and cohesive in 10to8.
I’m truly grateful to have had the opportunity to work with 10to8 and look forward to seeing how they progress in the future.
