Hello, my name is Delia Warmington and I am a therapeutic counsellor based in Purewell, Christchurch. I work with adults, children and young people. I am a member of the British Association for Counselling and Psychotherapy (BACP) and I work to their guidelines and code of ethics. I am also signed up to their voluntary register.
What is counselling? Counselling is a talking therapy. The terms ‘talking treatment’, ‘talking therapy’ or ‘psychological therapy’ have the same meaning and all cover treatments that you may know as psychotherapy, counselling and therapy. Generally, counselling deals with issues in the here and now and psychotherapy deals with issues from the past that are likely to be deeply imbedded, however, things are rarely as straightforward as that and there is often a lot of overlap.
Counselling provides the time and space for you to talk about things you find troubling and explore difficult feelings with a trained professional in a confidential setting. This can help you to deal with specific problems, cope with a crisis, improve your relationships, or develop better ways of living.
The purpose of talking treatments is not to give advice, but to help you understand your feelings and behaviour better and, if you want to, to change how you behave or the way you think about things. It can help you find a way of living that is meaningful and fulfilling for you. You are always in control of the process. When starting counselling, I usually suggest working together for 4 sessions and then review to see how things are going. If you feel that further sessions would be beneficial to you, we can agree to continue working together for as many sessions as you feel would be useful.
My Fees. My fees are £45 per session. Concessions are available so please feel free to ask. Sessions for children, being typically shorter at 30-40 minutes, are charged at £35 per session. Concessions are also available for these.
I also provide supervision for counsellors and student counsellors. My rates are £30 per hour (£20 per hour if you are a counselling student).
